Homoeopathy

Homoeopathy is a therapeutic system of medicine that aims to promote a self-healing response in the patient, by taking a medicine that is similar to their condition.

What is homoeopathy?

Vitalism is the central philosophy in the practise of homoeopathy. This is the concept that there is one unifying energetic field that supports all biological life to function harmoniously. Other cultures have a different word for vitalism. For example, Chinese medicine uses the word “chi” while ayurvedic medicine uses the word “prana”.

A curative homoeopathic medicine is one which has been individually selected for a patient and given at an optimal dose and is prescribed with the intention of supporting the self-healing capacity of this person’s own resources.

Homoeopathic medicines are prepared in a specific way through a potentisation process that involves serial dilution and succussion (shaking hard). The medicines are usually taken orally, so they can be conveniently provided in pills, powders, tablets, sprays or drops.

How can a homoeopath help you?

Homoeopathic medicines holistically encourage the full resolution of a patientÕs health issues and assists in achieving a thorough cure of the acute or chronic challenge. This is achieved by utilising the vitalism in natureÕs bounty of medicines Ð chosen from plants, minerals, and other natural sources.

Each of the 8,000 plus homoeopathic medicines has a therapeutic profile derived from prior ethical testing on humans. Selecting a suitable medicine is a process of matching the patient profile, derived from case taking, to the most similar profile of a medicine.

When visiting a homoeopath for the first time, they will ask you questions about your physical, mental, and emotional state, and your medical history. They will try and understand the different symptoms that you are experiencing and investigate what influences their changes. Your homoeopath will conclude by prescribing you with the individualised remedies for your treatment.

Homoeopathic medicines can be used as a preventative option when trying to enhance immunity for the annual cold and flu season, so a homoeopath can recommend useful medicines to include in your first aid kit for minor infections and wounds.

For womenÕs health, you may consult a homoeopath during different stages of life, using medicines to normalise hormonal imbalances.
