Traditional Chinese Tonic Soup
A fabulous traditional Chinese tonic soup to keep you warm and satisfied in the colder months.
This is a great winter soup to tonify your Qi and blood. Also strengthens the lung, heart, spleen, kidneys and liver plus calms the spirit. In short, you will have more energy, feel warmer on those cold days and sleep better.
Ingredients
Huang Qi, Dang Shen, Bai Zhu, Suan Zao Ren, Da Zao, Dang Gui, He Shou Wu and Huai Shan Yao (Astragalus, Codonopsis, Atractylodis, Zizyphi, Black dates, Angelica, Polygoni and Dioscoreae)
(Available from Chinese grocery stores it will be called Chinese soup mix/packet in a clear bag. There are various combinations to choose from as well.)
Pork (bones or pieces) or chicken (whole chicken or chicken pieces)
Water
Method
Simmer the pork or chicken first in 2 litres of water for 2 hours. When you have a strong stock, then add the packet of herbs and boil for another 20-30 minutes. Strain out the meat and herbs, keep the clear broth to enjoy!
